If you frequently travel across national borders, you’ll appreciate my favorite 1Password feature: Travel Mode. There’s also support for Passkeys, a feature to securely share files (called Bitwarden Send), and an extremely active and helpful community.ġPassword does have a few extras that might make it better for some though. Bitwarden recently introduced passwordless authentication support, meaning you can log in with a one-time code, biometric authentication, or a security key. Bitwarden also has support for Windows Hello and Touch ID on its desktop apps for Windows and macOS, giving you the added security of those biometric authentication systems. There are apps for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as extensions for all major web browsers. You can install it on your own server for easy self-hosting if you prefer to run your own cloud. ![]() ![]() Bitwarden was also audited for 2022 by a third party to ensure it’s secure. In theory, the more eyes on the code, the more airtight it becomes. Did I mention it’s open source? That means the code that powers Bitwarden is freely available for anyone to inspect, seek out flaws, and fix. The applications are polished and user-friendly, making the service the best choice for most users. Support for iOS is also being developed for apps as well as Safari for Apple devices.Bitwarden is secure, open source, and free with no limits. Google LLC launched passkey support for consumer accounts in mid-May, with business customers getting passkey logins for Google Workspaces and Cloud earlier this week. However, the company said that in July the option to create a 1Password account with passkey login support will become available. That’s the password that’s needed to unlock all the other passwords under their account in 1Password, the big important one for everything. They won’t need to write it down on a piece of paper or store it in a password manager on their computer. You can read all about how to substitute oats in the gluten free baking, and finally make this grain-free! I have finally successfully replaced the oats in this recipe, and every other oat-filled recipe on this blog (and in my cookbooks!). There's no substitute! Oat-free, gluten free protein bars For now, yes, you do need to include the oats. If you prefer a dairy protein powder, try whey protein. Gluten free protein bars: substitutions Dairy free protein barsĪs written and as long as you use dairy free chocolate, this recipe makes dairy free protein bars. So don't wait until the moment you need them to make these protein bars! Make a double batch, and stock up, so you and your family are never without this healthy, grab-and-go snack. These bars will take at least an hour in the refrigerator to become firm enough to slice, and to hold together properly. Plus, you need a protein powder, since these are protein bars after all! Don't rush the firming time ![]() We want the bars to hold together well, so you'll need ingredients that provide structure, and ingredients that bind the bars together. There's no chemical reaction happening, since these bars are no-bake, so the mixture must have a certain texture right out of the food processor. There are lots of ways to customize these protein bars to your family's tastes and nutritional needs. If you have another favorite protein powder, use that! Tips for making the best homemade high protein bars Don't just leave out an ingredient You can use any flavor protein powder you like in the date version and leave out the melted chocolate, and you'll change the flavor profile to suit your tastes. Including the melted chocolate in the bar itself makes the bar richer in taste and more firm for easy handling. Without the full chocolate coating, the bars are much easier to handle and transport. My favorite way to make these bars is the “date version.” I always include the melted unsweetened chocolate-and with just a drizzle of melted chocolate on top, at most. They each work just as well as one another. I've tried these bars with every single variation I recommend. I do still include plenty of options for making it more neutral-tasting (including making it with cashew butter). I like this version best made with cocoa powder and melted chocolate. So I've also formulated another recipe with nut butter and no dates. Nut butter versionīut I realize that you may not know where to buy Medjool dates. If you prefer a more neutral-tasting bar, use a vanilla or unflavored protein powder, and leave out the melted chocolate. It really helps the bars hold their shape and gives them a richer flavor. You can include unsweetened melted chocolate in the mixture, or not. I buy those dates by the pound at Trader Joe's, and they're essential for recipes like my healthy Paleo fudge. One is made with super soft, packed-with-fiber, deliciously sticky Medjool dates to hold the bars together and sweeten them, of course. So I've included two basic recipe formulas for homemade protein bars below. Those other recipes either rely on one specific type of protein powder, call for a million different funky ingredients I've never heard of, or they are one flavor and one flavor only. Have you ever noticed that most of the recipes out there for homemade protein bars are so specific? I am a fan of baking recipes being specific, since baking is chemistry. Why these gluten free protein bars are the best (two recipes, endless options) That's the kind of experimenting I rarely get to do anymore, where I just throw a bit of this and a bit of that into a recipe. The other hive had the piece attached and was working on completing it and was working on another frame. Four days later, one hive had the frame completely draw and was working on several other frames. One of the hives had a broken frame, so after most of the brood emerged, I cut the comb out, split it in half lengthwise and put each piece into a medium frame with rubberbands. I was using a single deep because that's how my nucs came, and the queens never left the deeps.Įven after the deeps were packed with bees, brood and honey, they weren't building comb in the medium. Then putting two empties in the middle with a drawn frame between them, they'll draw those frames faster than just leaving them in the top. and then by rotating the outer frames up to the next box. I had maybe 6 frames that they started building "wonky comb", but I caught it and straightened it out before it became an issue.įrom what I understand, bees will draw out frames faster in the brood box, which by checkerboarding empty frames in with drawn frames, they'll have those filled out pretty fast. Overall, last year the bees did a good job building straight comb. Or should I scrap that idea and just use one box of drawn frames for each package and add a second box of empty frames after the first is pretty much full of brood and honey and pollen? This, of coarse, depends on where I finally decide to get my packaged bees. The only real concern I have is that the packaged bees may start drawing out larger comb (my current bees are small), making the hive look like it's half full of drone comb. I figure that will give the queens enough to start laying right away and also give enough comb for foragers to store as the rest of the frames are being drawn out. Each box will be checkerboard with five frames of drawn and partially drawn comb and empty frames. My thoughts are, starting eight packages of bees in hives with two boxes. That will leave me with 80 frames that I hope to maximize. The bottom will be full of drawn comb that the queen will hopefully be already laying in and the other two will be checkerboard with drawn and empty frames. If my hive survives the rest of the winter, I'll be removing their deep and they'll start spring with three mediums. That will give me 10 mediums worth of drawn frames. One hive seems dead while the other is surviving. Right now I have about 80 frames of drawn and partially drawn comb sitting in my basement plus two hives in the field. This year I'll be ordering packaged bees. ![]() When starting a new hive with packaged bees and without drawn frames, generally one box is used until the bees have drawn out and are using most of the frames (lets say 90%) and then a second box is added. ![]() There are currently two popular plugin converters on the market. On the other hand, you can work with a 32 to 64 bit converter from a third party developer that is a simpler solution. All this possible but certainly the whole thing cost money and consume time that freeware developer doesn’t receive a revenue for. On the one hand, developers could further develop the 32 bit plugins and offer them in the newer 64 bit format. If you are not a Bitwig user but maybe a Ableton users, there are two possible solutions that can help here. One exception per example is here Bitwig Studio from Berlin that support 32 & 64 bit plugins. Many DAW’s doesn’t have build-in bridges and producers can’t anymore use older plugins. Many producers don’t want to miss their great 32 bit plugins in their 64 bit only DAW environment. Less development time, fewer beta phases, they can focus on a modern architecture and make the most of the resources they have.Įven though 64 bit is becoming the new standard, there is a problem for many musicians. That certainly has many advantages for the companies. In a time where most musicians have very powerful computers in their home or professional studios, it’s for me a logical and understandable decision from the developers. The latest example is Ableton, which has announced last month that they will continue to develop Live 9 only in 64 bit in the future. ![]() Many software company publish currently only 64 bit plugins and decide to stop the development of existing 32 bit software. In 2009 I finally gave up on growing plants in the ground and built my first raised bed. For square foot gardening you need as little as 16 square feet per person for fresh eating and about 32 square feet per person to have enough for preserving! Most people seem to agree that for a conventional row garden (a row of corn, a row of lettuce, a row of tomatoes…) 100 square feet per person is needed for a fresh eating garden, and about 200 square feet per person if you want to can food for year round use. How many people are you feeding? Do you want enough just for seasonal fresh eating? Do you want enough for canning, preserving, etc? Do you want enough to share with friends, family, or to sell at farmer’s market? Will you be conventional row gardening or square foot gardening? But most of all, how much space do you have? Most people do square foot gardening in raised beds, but you certainly can use this method with conventional “in the ground” gardening. It’s easy to add cover in winter so the soil is warmer and ready to go sooner in spring, or even add a cold frame on top for winter gardening. You don’t have to contend with rocks or stray tree roots. Raised beds cut down on the amount of weeds growing, but also makes it easier to pull the weeds that do grow. Twice a year I add compost from my compost bin to replenish the nutrients spent on growing and to replace any soil that washed away or compacted down. The best part about having raised beds is having total control over soil quality. Finally, I gave up, switched over to raised beds and never looked back. Amending & tilling soil, digging out endless rocks and never ending weeds. I tried for many years with conventional gardening with so-so results. Unfortunately that doesn’t make for the best farming soil. Cape Cod is a lovely place to live but we are basically a big sand bar that sticks out into the ocean. The answer to this is how good is your soil? My garden is set up for raised beds. They really are the experts on all things Square Foot Gardening!
